Long known as a sacrament wine for the great Abbeys, over half a century ago the wines of Savennières became one of Anjou’s three ‘crus’ (sub-appellations).
With the wines of Savennières, a deep golden hue with amber highlights distinguishes the colour. Subtle notes of lime, anise, and honey are typically found in the mouth paired with lemon, nutty and sweet-spice aromas on the nose.
The wines of Savennières, while quite enjoyable young, have an incredible potential to improve with cellar age and are thus a close guarded secret of many French wine-collectors.
